Construction Update: Al-Riyadh Metro Western Station

With Riyadh’s new metro system set to open in a few years, construction is proceeding rapidly on the Western Station, a multimodal transit hub designed by Omrania.   The subterranean parking, concrete ground pad, and elevated tracks are in place, as seen in a recent site photo. The curving roof forms of the station halls — inspired by sand dunes — will be built with a steel structure and a panelized cladding system, as shown in the accompanying video. The Western Station is planned and designed as a neighborhood destination. It will offer not only light rail and BRT connections but also public spaces and services for use by local families and commuters.
